Mud Treatment

Mud treatment (pelotherapy, Greek pelos means sludge and terapia means treatment) is undoubtedly one of the most ancient ways of medical treatment of various diseases. Thus, the well-known idiom “Cleanliness is next to godliness” is not the truth to 100%.

Therapeutic muds are rated as mineral products. Their therapeutic influence is caused with their organic and mineral composition, bioactive compound content, hormonal, antibiotic and vitamin components, as well as with their microflora, which is the basis for the biological processes, occurring in them.

Therapeutic muds are divided into 4 main types depending on their physicochemical properties:

  • knoll mud, practically does not contain any organic matter.
  • sludge sulfide mud, contains up to 28% of organic matter.
  • Sapropels, contain up to 40% of organic matter.
  • Turves, contain up to 50% of organic matter.
