Sapropelic Tar
For a long time tar has been used for pest control by gardeners as it has strong peculiar insect repellant odour.
- To repel lepidopterans (Synanthedon tipuliformis, Laspeyresia) it is necessary to spray fruit-trees with tar solution (3 tablespoonfuls per 10 liters of water). Lepidopterans disgusting the tar odour will have to fly aside your garden and oviposit somewhere in the other place.
- Tar usage can also help to exterminate ants. It is recommended to spray tree stems with tar solution above the ground and to pour ant nests with it under the ground. Ant nests will be destroyed and ants never appear again.
- Oidium can also cause damage to a garden. Its marks are white spots on the tops in the form of mold. Sick plants can be sprayed with tar solution (3 tablespoonfuls per 10 liters of water).
- Tar is also used against aphids. One should dissolve 300 – 400 g of laundry soap, add some tar and flush the tops of damaged branches.
- Many gardeners complain that their onion is getting yellow and leaf sheaths fall on the ground before the harvest time. Probably it is damaged by an onion fly. You are recommended to take a bucket of wood meal, add 4 – 5 tablespoonfuls of tar, rub it and sprinkle on the patch. It’s also useful to hang pots of tar on the branches all over the garden.
